private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 Jan 3rd, 2019 12:00AM Open Open WildAid Toxic at the top WildAid's field-level employees around the world are talented, dedicated, and behave with integrity. Those with least exposure to the CEO are sometimes able to achieve positive change. Schedules are flexible and the CEO is rarely in the office, which provides a modicum of relief. My experience observing the CEO as people manager revealed behaviors that appeared ineffective, dictatorial, obsessive, pedantic, argumentative, and lacking emotional intelligence. I witnessed and heard about assertive women routinely targeted and forced out of the organization. In my opinion, the other two senior executives behaved cowardly when conflicts arose between the CEO and employees. They appeared unwilling and unable to manage upward, or to support their employees through the dysfunctional environment created by the CEO. WildAid is an analog organization losing relevance in a digital world. It has has no strategy to connect the CEO's dated "vision" to his myopic and repetitive suite of tired tactics. Rather than address these failings, the he and his hand-picked pay-to-play board of major donors seemed more interested taking their families on luxury wildlife trips and socializing with obscure "celebrity" ambassadors. It is sad to see smart and accomplished people fall for the CEO's vapid razzle-dazzle showmanship. Meanwhile, staff continues to turnover and over again as newly-recruited talents become discouraged and disaffected. Don't be fooled; the emperor has no clothes. private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 Feb 22nd, 2016 12:00AM Open Open WildAid Awesome organization with an even greater mission WildAid has an incredible mission that is fulfilled by a team of like-minded individuals that all work very hard for the cause. It's a small but mighty team that continues to grow both in the SF office and internationally. There are opportunities to engage in many different aspects of WildAid such as small events, galas, and both domestic and international travel, depending on your position. Management encourages employees to take initiative and there is room to build upon your successes and position. More recently, WildAid has worked to reward employees throughout the year and has increased team-building activities. As mentioned in previous posts, you must be a strong independent worker at WildAid as it is much like a start-up, each position is very unique to the other and it's a fast-paced environment that's constantly changing. Some people flourish in an environment like this while others do not, I would highly suggest taking this in to consideration before applying. Management was spread thin and often times not available due to frequent international travel and having far too many things on their plate. I think it would have helped to have a managing director in the office at all times that could have really focused on HR and the SF staff. I worked with some good people at WildAid that both came and left while I was there and all cited the same reasons for leaving, mostly management style and office culture. It was disappointing to see the high turnover rate with such a small team in such a short amount of time. However, all of these things were improving in the year before I left and I believe continue to do so today. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 2.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 431624 Open There needs to be a managing director in the office that is not traveling frequently. Keep improving the office culture and engage the employees in as many aspects of WildAid as you can, as our positions were all so unique from one another it was difficult knowing what campaigns and projects were going on if we weren't directly working on them. Be sure to show your employees that you value them and all the hard work they put in, it will definitely help to keep good people around long term and contribute to the overall success of the organization. I am honored to have had the chance to work for this organization and wish them the best of luck as they continue to fight for wildlife! 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 4.0 May 12th, 2021 03:36PM May 12th, 2021 03:36PM WildAid

It has a start-up culture so if you can get projects moving, there are plenty of opportunities to take on a bigger role. Very creative and enterprising. Great opportunity to take on major projects. Strong performance is rewarded. Strong financial management. Very competitive compensation and benefits package. Fast-paced environment and high expectations with a very lean team. Senior management provides guidance and the team is very cooperative but the people who fit best are self-starters and good communicators. Working across many time zones, languages and cultures can be a challenge. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 3.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 431624 Open Continue the great accomplishments and strengthen new programs with strong staff. private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 Jan 5th, 2015 12:00AM Open Open WildAid New Media Manager Beijing, Beijing, Beijing Small organization doing exciting work with tremendous opportunities WildAid is a lightweight organization that achieves impressive, fast results. It's exciting to work in such a fast-paced organization that delivers tangible, visible results on important issues. Not the slightest bit mundane. Ideal for an independent worker that thrives in finding creative solutions under high pressure. Frequent opportunities to work with celebrities and major media organizations. Results are very visible. Internal communications between leadership and staff need improvement. Employee benefits should be better. private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 Jan 5th, 2015 12:00AM Open Open WildAid Wildlife Campaigner Hong Kong WildAid is cool place to work! I've worked for WildAid for just over a year now, first as a consultant, then as staff. During that time the senior management team at WildAid have given me a great opportunity, and the flexibility and free rein to get quite creative in my own way by running wildlife conservation media campaigns under the WildAid banner here in Hong Kong, as well as some wildlife trade investigations too. And the best thing is that support and expert advice is never far away when I need it. This organisation has been making some real impact of late, and as a consequence it is a really optimistic environment to work in, which can in turn boost your own morale! The time difference can hamper communications occasionally, but that's not WildAid's fault. It would be the same in any organisation that has offices spanning the globe. 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 POSITIVE 1.0 APPROVE 0.0 5.0 5.0 5.0 4.0 4.0 5.0 431624 Open The WildAid management team are making some real headway in reducing the demand for wildlife products around the world, bt most notably in Asia. private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 Jul 11th, 2014 12:00AM Open Open WildAid Climate Program Manager San Francisco, CA A worthwhile experience worthy of an unbiased review Meaningful work in demand reduction with a proven track record for effectiveness on a global scale. If you enjoy very small teams, hard work, and can manage traveling, then WildAid might be great for you. Caveat: this will depend on which team you join. Great opportunity to meet celebrities and important organizations/institutions/businesses. You will be using every skill set in your tool belt from graphics design to public speaking. WildAid China is a wonderful team to work with. Not enough relevant training and cross-team synchronization. Not enough emphasis on clear goals, expectations, KPIs, and parameters for what is considered good performance. Not enough credit is given when credit is due. The SF office culture needs help since management team is way too quiet and withdrawn. Certain roles do not have enough leadership input and teammate support. -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NEUTRAL -1.0 DISAPPROVE 5.0 3.0 3.0 1.0 4.0 3.0 1.0 431624 Open Be more involved and show genuine interest in everyone's work. This will also help in defining goals and KPIs. Invest in building happier teams. Value and appreciate the people who're working just as hard to make WildAid a success. When you put yourselves out there, your staff will follow suit. A healthy culture is just as important, if not more important, than fundraising. The management team needs to manage people, and not just finances and donors. 0.0 [] REGULAR No No 2.0 May 12th, 2021 03:36PM May 12th, 2021 03:36PM WildAid
private:wildaid https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=431624 May 28th, 2014 12:00AM Open Open WildAid Terrible executive leadership, mismanagement of staff / key personnel, no credit for work, no opportunities to grow WildAid has a very worthwhile mission and goal. It is unfortunate that an organization with such a wonderful goal is so poorly led and run. Extremely high turnover - over 50% of staff in last 2 years, poor executive leadership, poor management of staff and key personnel, no opportunities for personal growth, no training, hardly ever any employee reviews, no development, no opportunities to take on additional growth due to power hungry, disrespectful, and controlling leadership. Employees never given credit for their work by executive management who is power hungry, only looking for people who can give money, and often exhibits extremely irrational, unexplainable behavior which in turn effects the entire organization -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 DISAPPROVE 6.0 1.0 3.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 431624 Open Invest a bit more in people.
