Streamlined Place to Work
|
|
- efficient processes in place make onboarding and functioning straightforward
- some great people who work there
- interesting work
|
- culture varies office-to-office, for the worse in some offices
- can be a "guys" club in some departments (though this is more of an industry issues than Woolpert-specific)

Great Benefits (401k offerings, Health/Dental/Vision, Pd. Emp. Life Ins., Long/ Short Term disability, etc.)
Forward Thinking and Innovative
Employees are given the equipment necessary efficiently of their skills
Employees are provided training and encouraged to seek training
Each Office has it's own personality and is very much family
Very Focused on GPTW rating which has increased company-wide initiatives and benefits (including wellness compensation, great rates on pet ins. etc.)
Family culture in regional offices.
|
There is a disconnect between Management and Technical Staff (includes top tier management).
Very Focused on GPTW rating on the surface but has lost sight of what made it a GPTW.

My advice to management would be to listen to their employees and to think about a time when they were technical staff. Let your employees know that you aren't running the company to fill your wallet along with shareholders' wallets.
Woolpert recently went to 'unlimited' vacation time. Sounds exciting, but for employees that have been with the firm for several years, the number of day's of vacation you 'had' signified something. It signified the seniority and years worked at Woolpert. However, 'unlimited' vacation is directly linked with making billable hours goal. Recommended time off is 10min to 30max. days off/ year. With this benefit linked to billable hours few will get the days off their seniority gave them and many will get the 10 day min. This also means that you no longer have time earned. If you are laid off/ fired/ or leave the firm, Woolpert doesn't have to pay you for hours or days earned at severance because there isn't a number anymore.
I would encourage management to answer hard questions from employees without getting defensive and without demeaning the people asking the questions. Watch body language during employee Q/A teleconferences; after the live teleconference, watch the recording and take notes.
Woolpert is a GREAT company that has been in business since 1911. I encourage Reflect on what has given Woolpert the longevity to last over a centennial. You will see that it is the employees that have made Woolpert successful.
It is wonderful to see the expansion Woolpert has made over the last 5 years alone, but at what expense?

Good Place to Work
|
|
Expanding fleet with multiple airframe types. Good way to start a career and move up. Low time pilots expect to start off as FOs on turbines for a couple of seasons then move to PIC in piston twins (C404). Good group of people to be around and interesting work.
Flexible schedule.
|
Flexible schedule. There are low periods in the year (usually winter) where the projects are slow really busy Spring-Summer. because of the nature of the job, it can be hard at times to feel you're part of the team/company. Communication is improving to get everyone involved and well connected. It's still a pretty good place to work

Seems a bit top heavy, harder to compete with other firms on certain projects, could use a bit more internal collaboration for taking care of projects up front.
