Using business as a force for good. Innovative company that is always looking to grow, strengthen and improve. So much talent within the WB walls. The company cares for the staff and freelancers in a variety ways. "Pie in the sky" ideas are listened to and support is given to make them a reality. They approach work/life balance with flexibility and understanding. And we get paid time off to volunteer! We often need to re-prioritize our plan for the day to address more time sensitive needs as they arise. Although Wordbank loves to tout its uniqueness in the business world, at the end of the day, it's just another business that exploits its employees and sucks every ounce of labor from its workers without fair compensation. Overtime was supposedly compensated with TOIL (time off in lieu). After employees began tracking their overtime hours, managers got mad and proceeded to take away overtime compensation because "that wasn't supposed to be how it worked". Instead, employees were left with no overtime compensation whatsoever in an environment that regularly required over 50-60 hours a week, with some employees working weekends for weeks, if not months, on end. Needless to say, this drives a high employee burn-out and turnover rate. From an operations standpoint, Wordbank insists upon its use of an in-house project management system that was built in the 90s and functions like it was built in the 90s. Additionally, there is a huge issue of silos between teams. Lastly, as a personal anecdote, when giving my notice of resignation, I had to quote my own job contract, as well as the employee handbook, to "HR" every time they contradicted themselves and tried to cheat me out of the benefits promised to me in both the contract and handbook. This company has no direction or leadership in any capacity. Employees are generally disgruntled and frustrated with current systems. The company will tell you you are being paid equally to your peers, this is absolutely not true. They will work you as long and hard as possible for as little as they can get away with. Any progressive work policies (i.e. Work from home, time off, lunch breaks..) are purely to make it 'seem' like the company cares about company culture. This is not true, working from home is reserved for severe illness, time off needs to be approved by all peers before management, and lunch is generally eaten at your desk. The work itself is very mundane, all positions would generally fit into the category 'data entry' as this is all you will do. This company continually operates on a panic system, all information is carried by one person and when they leave, everyone panics. Terrible business model. My colleagues were all brilliant and dedicated to excellence - it was rewarding to learn from coworkers with such a diverse range of skills and experiences. Everyone's perspective and any new ideas are respected and discussed, and you can mold your position to suit your strengths and interests. Management don't care The tasks are easy enough to do and the job can vary with some different projects from time to time. The team is supportive and friendly. It can get really busy but in the quiet periods there are lots to get on with. I really like the location as it's in Soho. There's no career progression and salaries are really low. I understand this as the company is not doing well but management don't have plans for improvements. Management don't care about the staff, the investors in people award is more important to get than the people. There are lots of meetings and they say they are listening and that things will change, and the first few weeks there's lots of talk and then nothing changes. Management hardly there, either working 3 days a week or WFH, late, leaving early etc. Bullying tactics from sales team not conducive to positive environment, There is no progression; after a couple years I saw no salary increase and no position increase even though I hit all objectives. Excuses given about why a senior role was unobtainable. As seen in previous reviews, the only person to take problems to is the COO, who is part of the in-action.
