Shortly after I started, the culture shifted after one of our competitors was acquired. There were various rounds of layoffs, where a big chunk of the workforce was let go at a time. My team trickled down to only a few people, where we were continuously tasked with taking on the work of those that were laid off (to be expected). They continued to say 'less is more' after every layoff but would expect more without offering any support or direction. Speaking of direction, the company changed theirs every other week. No one was aligned because our common goals were constantly changing (when WB is supposed to drive alignment). They say that they value your opinion, but if you mention any opinion, everyone will argue with you (CEO included). The platform changes constantly and these changes aren't well thought-out so there are various customer complaints. You'll get whiplash from how the terminology and modules constantly change without any oversight because leadership can't make well-intentioned decisions. There will also be various meetings on your calendar that eats up a massive chunk of your day. These meetings will usually go over time and spend majority of the time focusing on competitors or other irrelevant data that doesn't help the company progress forward. These meetings are spent "grandstanding" how great WorkBoard is, while giving no one any of the necessary skills to drive engagement or adoption. There's also no career growth. They package "career growth" as learning opportunities where you can shadow other departments and do their work, with no additional pay. They have invaluable ideas about how to make it better. •Keep the interface consistent--there are too many changes and every page is different, so users aren't able to learn quickly. •Spot check leaders--our team meetings were never spent discussing anything beneficial or relevant to the organization. It was mostly a time to disagree. If leaders were more aware of how to use the platform, they could better relate to the customer base. •Give your employees raises--employees should have merit raises at least once a year. Title changes are not enough. •Stop wasting everyone's time--there are too many meetings, too much time spent grandstanding, and very little value in any meeting. Setting guidelines and expectations for meetings can go a long ways. •Stop talking about competitors--frankly, no one cares. Users will buy your platform if they see value and it's easy to use and implement. •Improve the culture--everyone is afraid to say how they feel. Even leaders would use extremely inappropriate analogies that made everyone uncomfortable. Just because it's funny to you, doesn't mean it's funny to everyone else. Some of the people are awesome. Read the three most recent reviews prior to this one. They are accurate. Especially criticism of the CEO/CTO. If you don't already work here, you shouldn't. If you already work here, you shouldn't. It's not getting better, no matter what Deidre says. Nobody I know is happy here. I don't know that I would believe anyone that says they are. If you don't drink the koolaid you will hate every day. Leadership is poor. It starts at the top, but doesn't get better the further down you go. The product is trash. It's inconsistent. private:workboard https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=733639 Feb 11th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open WorkBoard --- Plenty of Shine & Polish - Lacking in Substance and Realism - An abundance of genuine, empathetic, and caring people with a feeling of camaraderie and commitment to each other and the company's clients who came to the company because they wanted to work in service of others. - A clever product with creative and passionate people behind it. - Incredible client base packed with industry leaders, innovators, and progressive thinkers who are energizing and rewarding to work with - Marketing, storytelling, and events that punch far beyond the company's weight - hard not to be impressed here. - A frenetic pace of change in how the company's platform and services are presented and sold has created fuzziness and confusion about the company's identity and direction. Customer-facing teams need to be given more time to learn, apply, and fine-tune the latest pitch and approach before it changes again. - An overinflated sense of importance has created a culture where constructive feedback and opinions on the direction and priorities of the company product are not welcome. Employees are expected to trust the strategy because it's the strategy. - Punitive attitude towards those seen as not being on board with the new flavor of the quarter. - Icarus-like fall with rolling layoffs over the past two years. The hiring in 2021 was not backed up by reality, and hundreds lost their jobs. - Lack of apparent growth and development plans for employees means many talented people are looking for the next opportunity after 2.5 years. - The level of anxiety I've seen enabled and utilized to max out productivity is unacceptable. The talent drain has already begun, but no amount of story, collateral, or pitch cleverness will change the fact that most clients renew because of the people they are partnering with - not a clever new feature. Clients value the partnerships more than the product. - Hire a COO and empower and trust someone to run the company day-to-day. - Drop the arrogance and dismissiveness when talking about competitors - it comes across as false in the room anyway. - Get honest about what the company is and is not today. The checks still cleared, so to speak. Where to start. The CEO and CTO are dysfunctional and delusional. And married. My guess is the board knows they both should be fired, but that would be admitting defeat and would necessitate telling investors that it's a complete loss. The product does not work well and is not particularly needed. User feedback is unwelcome and nothing ever gets fixed. The only adults in Product left long ago, and a completely inexperienced, kool-aid swilling sycophant was given a VP job nobody in their right mind would want. Other departments are run in a similar manner. The more experience you have, the smarter you are, the less likely your skills will be recognized by any "upper level" management. There is no room for opinions other than the CEOs which often fluctuates based on whatever Twitter post she reads most recently -The product, while impressive in how it looks and feels, is not mission-critical for customers -They lure you in with good pay but that stops after day 1. Never give out raises, even for inflation. Targets for bonuses are unreasonable so you wont get paid on that. Even title bumps without pay increases are like pulling teeth -4 rounds of layoffs? 5? Not sure anymore. Pleasure to do cross functional work - Company cares about work / life balance (lots of things in place to help with that) - Start-up Pace - I personally love it, but some may see it as a con, we are all running pretty fast. If that's not your style, consider larger companies - Speed and agility can create ambiguity. Fulfilling purpose - It is obvious we are solving an important and urgent problem for our customers. Cutting edge - We are the clear leader in our space with the best customer logos and have been for years by truly partnering with our customers and defining our space in the market with super talented teams and inspiring leadership. Respect for teammates always ranks the highest in our polls so its naturally hard when co-workers that become close friends, almost like family, depart. I don't always agree with why people leave but understand the complexity. All of the positives have faded away. Now its just another failing startup that is hoarding cash trying to survive. Plenty other companies in the market that are thriving that dont have layoffs every couple months to kill and good vibes that might still exist. What has remained consistent during that time is that no matter who I interact with, the customer always comes first. The team has a genuine desire to give the customer the best possible experience. There's not many levels of management which helps maximize the impact I feel I can make. I rarely encounter negativity which contributes to a positive environment where I can focus on doing my best work. Top management has strong depth of experience navigating variety of economic conditions. I believe there's ample opportunity to take on additional responsibilities.
