There's some talent here, particularly on the creative side.

The new CEO, Erik Logan, is a complete idiot. He's running the company into the ground as he is ONLY focused on his image and forcing his personal belief system on our international audience (which is both ethnocentric and narrow minded). During his tenure, he has failed in every way to run a successful league and has turned his back on our pro surfers and our audience (fans), making everything about him, which is not only bad business but egotistical. He even has made sure he gets interviewed in the actual content we produce! With a CEO who does not understand surfing, surf culture, and international audiences (all while trying to inject himself in the middle of everything), the WSL will ultimately fail as a sports league. Don't work here unless CEO resigns and the company focuses on audience-centric content. We need a more open minded CEO who puts the sport first.

They rarely promote from within (unless you're an exec). The pay is mostly lower than deserved (unless you're an exec). You will have to work way outside your pay and title, which seems to be a recurring trend around all departments.

The WSL does not provide career advancement opportunities

A few employees get to travel internationally

The WSL struggles to provide career advancement, especially with low to mid level employees. I've seen many employees put in years of hard work towards a promotion, with their direct supervisors promising advancement but never following through. This has forced some great people to leave the WSL only to be replaced immediately with someone from outside the organization. There is constant talk about creating a great culture at the WSL, but it's not going to happen when you're only rewarding the heart of your workforce with gift certificates for going "Above and Beyond". If you want to improve the culture, I would start by celebrating your employees properly and providing them with a simple career ladder. In my 5 plus years with the WSL less than 10 people received promotions.

I love the company culture. There are town halls every month where we learn all aspects of the company and get to hear from our executives to guide us toward our goals. There are great community events and volunteer opportunities for the employees to get involved in. We are located super close to the water so there is lots of great places to go for meetings, a break, and to brainstorm. The work environment is encouraging and collaborative as well. Everyone wants to help each other and make this the best it can be.

The company culture at WSL is the best I've ever experienced, and only continues to get better. Despite having various regional offices working across various timezones, it's really easy to feel familiar with each and every employee across the globe. Everyone at the company is passionate about surfing and the work that we do, and it really shows.
