The technology is impressive and the market opportunity is huge. Lots of autonomy, very little micromanaging. Investors should know that this current organization business model does not meet scalable ways to acquire its client tell and sustain long term contracts. Failures are transparent due to poor management teams. Such strategies are weak. Team has poor judgement on validating the ideas before and during development, thus carry through poorly go-to-market strategies. They are usually poor at execution, which leads to issues with the product not getting built correctly or on time, and the go-to market execution is poorly implemented. They will build weak teams below them. There is the well proven saying: A players hire A players, and B players only get to hire C players (because B players don’t want to work for other B players). So the rest of the company ends up as weak, there is no point hiring lots of staff and higher up people if the company is still in the process of finishing the product and doesn't have an aggressive plan B (reserve capital) because heres what could happen.... staff can loose their jobs like they all did in Christmas and New Year time. Absolute misery to leave a full time secured position and be persuaded to get into a start up and then be laid off. just poor STRATEGY. Great atmosphere for learning from people's knowledge and experience. CEO and employees involved in the interview process are good at seeing talent and knowing what role someone will be best in. Hours are up to you - come and go as you please as long as you get your work done and don't miss meetings. Lots of time off, and there's no pressure to not take time off during busy times. High turnover rate. Some of that is due to layoffs when money was tight in the past, some of that is because not everyone is a good fit for the company. Not a superb feeling of job security because of this, but it's getting better. Overall design philosophy and major design decisions aren't really up for change (in most cases). Ian knows what he wants, so employees must have some ability to 'go with it' and not debate high-level decisions. In my experience, those decisions were made for a good reason even if they seem strange at first. He's happy to explain and back up why things are the way they are though. There hasn't been much organization within engineering recently, which has caused a few problems. It may not always be appreciated in the moment, but I think it would be better in the long run. Great place to learn. You can adapt your role to try new things as long as whatever you are doing is helping move the project closer to completion. Informal communication style means there is often uncertainty about what is required, what is optional, and what is off limits. Lack of explicit organizational rules means you need to have a good read on implicit expectations. Not in crowded SF so the commute is much nicer. Looks good on your resume when you go to get a real job. The president just has a disdain for engineering analysis. Don't waste time documenting your work, this will make him angry. You are expected to just slap things together quickly so the vehicle can just make it through the next trade show. The average employee lasts just over a year to get the stock option, which is actually worthless anyhow.
