Highly qualified, relatively young first level workforce with lot of enthusiasm.
Interesting technology.

Extremely poor management with snake oil sales tactics.
Outlandish and unrealistic promises to customers without understanding the technology.
Inability to accept the limitations of the technology.
Constant crises management with primary focus on wordsmithing customer communications than honesty.
The other half of the problem is the CEO.

Enthusiastic and capable staff, some interesting applications and research projects

Upper management jumps the gun and markets most products too early. Many business decisions are made based on greed with little consideration for engineering integrity of products. Empty promises to customers result in bad customer relations. Very little mobility and no room to grow in any direction. Company is top heavy with too many incompetent managers and not enough engineers to support their empty promises.

Good individual contributors and some leaders. High adrenaline atmosphere with folks who genuinely want to do the right thing.
|
When I was there, had no idea on how to make a business from a technology. Knee-jerk and amateurish reactions instead of rational approach to urgent issues. Let customer mid level managers drive them as if they were reacting to Intel.
