Good student job, but not great to build many long-term skills
Great community, with most other aides being FGLI students. There is often bonding events (office paid for Chick-fil-A! or movie nights) outside of work hours. Pay increases a level every year. Lots of extra benefits with being close to the college admin and office. Easy to choose how much or how little you work every semester.
No advancement unless you become Head Aide (but they do a lot more work outside of hours and are on call for some issues) . Just basic office skills.

Questionable Science in a Toxic Environment
It's a decent addition to your resume, if the senior science staff (predominantly middle to older age, white men) sees themselves in you, you may be given opportunities that will look good on grad school applications
There is an ongoing problem with gender bias in the lab. Female staff are tasked with working with child participants and male staff do the tech/stats/data analysis. Senior staff have explicitly stated that it's not appropriate for male staff to work one on one with children. Female staff that were not only talented, but skilled, are consistently pushed out of data/skills building opportunities that would facilitate career advancement.
Junior staff are overworked (female staff working 65+ hour weeks, for months in a row, while male junior staff worked 35 hour weeks), under paid and under appreciated.
Questionable business practices combined with the current funding landscape have put the future of the lab in peril.
Casual sexual harassment is also prevalent in the lab. This was brought to the attention of senior staff and yet remains problematic. It ranges from constant commentary on female dress and handsy visiting scientists to staff viewing pornography in an open office environment.

Listen to junior staff, respect their contributions, time and abilities, commit to long term training around gender bias and sexual harassment for all staff, with consequences for inappropriate behavior.

Great place for research
I like the friendly environment and the freedom in doing research at Haskins. There are ample research talk from top scholars in their own research area related to language, speech, and reading as well, which provides great opportunities for learning.
Lack of private funding resources.

Good company
Great team, good bosses, overall a relaxed environment. The job was fairly easy and you could listen to music or podcasts while doing most tasks.
The 3 o'clock meetings were a waste of time, communication within the workplace could be improved. If you get stuck on a single task for too long it can become monotonous.

Figure out better ways to distribute information. If you do want to keep the 3 o'clock meetings keep them on track a bit better, there isn't a real reason they should last upwards of 20 mins.

Okay for temporary stints, little long-term potential
Lots of flexibility with hours (esp if you're part time). Lots of opportunity to get hands on experience with experimental work.
As is the case with any academic lab, your livelihood is governed by a grant and how long it will last.

Good place to work prior to grad school (cog sci, psych, linguistics) if you want good recommendations. Casual work place enviroment
poor integration of research associates into the science, rare opportunities for poster/paper authorship, poor compensation, no real HR oversight of "old boys club" mentality

The office staff is great, the job is simple to pick up upon and leaves you plenty of time to handle personal matters. Scheduling is very flexible.
Limited office hours available; sometimes the work is too routine; not really a place for career advancement but it doesn't matter.
