I got to use the technology I thought fit the project and do all the phases from architecting to seeing it live. The career allowed me to grow to principal engineer from mid level engineer. Unable to secure new or interesting work, during my time at the company I spent approximately 8 months without a project. General lack of direction, the mission statement must have changed 3 times whilst I was working there, and annual off-sites which were meant to unify the vision tended to just display how unprepared the leadership team were. Lots of reshuffling of management happening pretty much constantly, resulting in a lack of stability and sometimes awkward line manager placements, with engineers in London having line managers in Lisbon. Trys to be remote first but does not have any infrastructure whatsoever, the London office had 1 portable Jabra and refused to buy anymore due to cost. Acquired a design team however no one in the leadership knew how to do design work or how to land design projects. It seems that they struggle to get new business. As a result you can be put onto a project where you add no real value, just to get money in. People are let go mysteriously with no explanation, no one speaks about it. People in senior positions with no real experience. Marketing spend a lot of money on events for the community but this doesn't seem to get us any business, not sure why? Sexist environment. A lot of people have quit due to lack of work. Very poor communication from the exec team. No new clients and the existing ones are dead-end. Very minimal support for junior engineers. Boring internal project for engineers not on a client. No bonuses due to lack of funds; however more than happy to pay for offsites abroad. Talented people have been fired, whilst exec team's incompetence is rewarded with expensive Stanford courses. The company lost many talented people in 2019 without hiring anyone new - No new business. Despite YLD's impressive partnerships we've only scored a couple of new engagements this year, none of which have lasted beyond 3 months - Terrible existing clients. While one or two are interesting, a lot of businesses engage with us solely because they can't hire anyone to work on their broken solutions or legacy stack - No growth. Just do whatever we need to help us survive - Trigger happy firings. Amazing leaders have been told to leave after being blamed for lack of business - Good people are leaving. I've been told the company no longer has a CTO - No transparency in communication.
