Like most contractors you have to please the customer. When the customer bullies their contractors one needs to have management support them. This companies management did not care about that. Numerous employees were put on Improvement plans with no direction on how to improve all because the customer had one disagreement with the contractor.
If this company would support their employees better then they would have employees able to provide better for customer needs.

Employees take a backseat
|
This was one of the worst job experiences I've had. The uncertainty from day to day added anxiety. Company puts profits above employee satisfaction and training and they are very impersonal. I never met anyone from York in my time working for them and whenever I needed to contact someone it was usually way after a phone call or by e-mail. I will never work for this company again regardless of the offer.

The people
|
A typical day, I come in and do confirmations from previous days orders.
Track any shipments. Go through emails and answer and questions and give any tracking that is requested. I follow up on orders that I don't have tracking for. Purchase any items required for a trouble ticket (system down), working with Tech Services & Warehouse to make sure requirements for customter are met. Work with Media Services to Issue purchase orders for any sub-contractor jobs. Purchase equipment that is needed for any jobs. Follow up on Open PO report, Work with accounting on any Purchase Order / Invoice discrepancies. Correspond with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Sales Managers, VP of Procurement & Logistics & Director of Logistics on a Daily basis. Company is very flexible with employees work schedules when needed. Busy at times, and slow at other times. Learned a lot about telecommunications.

Like anything "new", you are treated great, then you start to see the "real" deal at the company. Managers don't set up employees for success, when getting training from others in the role you are trying to fill, its less than impressive, you are left with not much to go with.

Not worth working for

Personally it took me a lot to write because I believe letting a person experience things for themselves. Yorktel is not a company that's worth working for. No career advancement, poor pay and bad management. When I was working for them we changed management and personnel like changing your socks. I know that sound crazy but it's true. They have a problem keeping employees. Many leave for advancement and better pay. They try to hire you at the lowest salary possible. If you don't do your research prior to accepting the job then you are screwed. You must speak up to get things done. For those that know this saying " A close mouth doesn't get feed". You must use your voice to get advancement in this company. This review I am doing is the truth. I left on good terms and Yorktel was there for me but they should be ashamed and question their ethic and integrity. A dishonest company can never go any where but down.

Management is very dishonest and does not care about the employees only the contract. All the employees must protect themselves by documenting all conversations with the corporate office because there is no truth within them at all. Always cover your own backside.

When I worked for York Telecom I enjoyed my work and those I worked with. We were a good team of contracted employees who worked for the Social Security Administration, but there was practically no chance for advancement, and when I was offered a federal job I took the opportunity.
