Good people and ideas, initially
A very collaborative environment and fun, laid back group of people to work with. New product ideas were easily floated. Upper management eager to hear input from all employees, regardless of title. Lots of room to run with the ball - initially.
Too much product pivoting. Lots of re-organizations that shifted employees or created new units with not much direction to start. Politics and nepotism arrived with some of the new management.

Bad management. Nepotism.
Had good location. Nice walking trails around. Great weather in California. What else can you expect? Falafel place across street was good.
Bad management. Nepotism. Top down. Limited planning. Ad hoc. Day to day. Good books of management - okay for you.

Great work environment, and employees truly care about the product.
Not enough traction for employees to stick around and see it though.

It was a good run
Great ideas and good group of people. The teams worked well together and we produced some great products. We imaged changing the world.
The product never got traction. There was only one significant client, Driscoll's berries, but we could not gain major new clients. The efforts to engage the Grocers did not take off.

Try to find the real needs in the industry and modify the product to gain real appeal. The Food Safety aspects may have been pre-mature concepts. The BI and logistics aspects may be the way to go.

Food industry support technology
Opportunity to dive into new applications of existing technology.
SF Bay area location, near many tech industry partners.
Departments at odds with each other, fractious politics, siloed information.
Located in expensive corporate 'nowheresville', far from interesting parts of SF Bay, ten miles from nearest BART station.

Be careful and ask a lot of questions
The office is new and close to Caltrain. It is a job. Casual dress code. Food is ordered once a week.
Employee retention is extremely low. Middle management does a terrible job of communicating to their team and seems to be more interested in bad politics and blame for failure. Some of the things I witnessed while working here I had never experienced before. They do not pay anything close to competitive rates to anyone below manager or director. People all seem to be in crisis mode and insist on working harder not smarter. The agreement you sign to work will eliminate your ability to effectively to legally have any recourse should things go wrong.

Take a course in ethics. Communicate your goals and provide some type of metric or performance review to your staff so that they are clear on their duties. Do some research and pay people appropriately. Some people are compensated way too much for their role while others are paid a fraction of what their peers make elsewhere.

I was excited to join but quickly felt disappointed.
The idea is good overall (food traceability)
The employee turn over rate is high.
Compensation is below industry standard.
Required to work unpaid extra hours/day with out pay/recognition.
