As one of two in a department I learned quickly the ins and out of a art museum. What went on as installations went in and came down, the art classes that we used to provide, the fundraisers we would hold as a non-profit institution hectic but great. My tenure I ran the mailroom myself as the other employee had left and it was hard to have time off when you were a one person department and for a non-profit they did compensate me in other ways. My co-workers were kooky to scholarly and I loved them all for it be of an art background myself I recognized the subtle and no so subtle nuances creative people have. At times as management changed times became harder and more challenging but ultimately made me the the right person to take on a larger role as Office Services Coordinator. Running a separate administrative office and the two galleries, one a new building under which my Facilities Director who I clashed with at first but became my mentor. Shipping for two gift shops, overseeing two galleries, event set ups, as well as office maintenance and security was hard but rewarding as this position made me who I am today. Sadly, hard financial times are what can make or break an organization and The Great Recession decimated a once great cultural institution as the main building was lost and a great many of us saw ourselves out of the positions we held dear.
