Good experience for anyone thinking of entering the mental health field

Stable work.
Work is steady. Staff was strong and supportive. Consistent, which was a plus.
Same old routine of medicating clients. It got to be depressing for me to work with the same young kids knowing they would be in services long term, sometimes for life.

It seems every year employees have to worry about having their position funded for another year.

I have always found it beneficial for management to develop a culture of having employees feel important and valuable to the company.

Entry Opportunity to the field
The job allowed an opportunity to use the skills you learned on a vast scale. The HR staff are willing to work with you and the communication level worked well with others.
Compensation and career growth could be better. Other local companies had some advancement on career growth.

Nurse
Greensboro, NC
Rewarding patients, little to no support for medical staff.
The children for whom I cared were receptive to respectful and good treatment. They appreciated the time I spent with them and responded appropriately to requests. The patients were the best part of the job.
Challenges I faced, as a nurse, included PRN nurses "forgetting" they'd volunteered for a shift, leaving the 2 other nurses to work out extended shifts to a dangerous point. PRN nurses were not available if a staff nurse had an emergency or was out sick. There was no allowance for anything out of the ordinary. This was a problem that management was fully aware of, but had no answer for.

Find a few nurses who are willing to work in the same way a substitute teacher works. PRN nurses should have a limit on the number of times they can refuse a shift before being terminated.

Childcare Worker
This is a difficult but rewarding job. You have the opportunity to provide a positive experience to at-risk youths who may have never had anyone be good to them before. You learn a great deal about yourself and about social services, troubled youths, and more. Anyone in this position will benefit in some way, even if it just provides you with more perspective about social welfare, at risk youths, nonprofits, etc.
All nonprofits face issues with funding, which means you're going to lack funds for training and the number of employees per shift; and that's true in this case. In addition, some co-workers aren't as supportive as they should be, but that's at any job.

Require more training for new employees. I think 2 weeks on the job training is needed. More team building exercises to strengthen team work and cultivate better relationships amongst employees.
