Great office environment to work in - really great leaders in the company who are very approachable, amazing and friendly co-workers who are extremely helpful, free office snacks and cold brew on tap, good salary, and inexpensive and comprehensive benefits. Its a great casual organization with no BS.

The pace is really fast, so you really need to roll up your sleeves and get it done. Can be stressful at times. The office hours are 9-6 PM, so its a long day. But most people have the ability to work remote so it balances out.

Wonderful Atmosphere and Well Intentioned

The people are great - they constantly hire nice interesting people who are good at what they do, and who also make great happy hour companions. The work is interesting and constantly changing. There is a leniency for what could otherwise become silly issues - eg: coming in slightly late doesn't matter so long as you accomplish goals etc.

They're bootstrap funded - so they lack some of the perks larger tech companies offer (401K matching is the biggest). Sometimes this means managerial inexperience as well. There is also a propensity not to promote from within - which contributes to higher turnover in almost every department. Sometimes new challenges are only met from the top down. It feels challenging to make your voice known - and in an ever changing industry this seems silly.

This company is made up of incredibly smart people who have a passion for technology. The VR and AR capability continues to grow every day. The environment is increasingly more collaborative. There is always opportunity for growth and if you want to see change, you can make it happen if you are dedicated to big picture goals and show long term advantage. The C suite is increasingly more open to listening to ideas and implementing them if they benefit everyone. I’ve seen a lot of positive change in open communication between all of management and among each department’s employees.
You are encouraged to continue learning and to further your expertise. If there is a class or certification that could benefit you and the company, they will definitely sponsor you to meet your goals.
The benefits are good. Flexible-ish hours, can work from home, PTO, maternity/paternity leave, 401k, medical/dental/vision is comprehensive, catered lunch every 2 weeks, snacks/drinks/coffee everyday.

You’ve nailed a positive working environment, but as for not matching 401k, there would be more incentive for people to stay longer if they knew their future was being invested in. I definitely feel your investments into our present, but in the hope of staying long term, I’d like to know that my future is also a priority of yours. I think this is key to employee retention.

Casual office, typical of the tech industry in NYC

Disorganization at the c-suite level. CTO, CEO, and CFO all seemed to want different things and push their own agenda, which in turn trickled down to the teams that reported to them respectively, often times with major oversights and conflicts that had real consequences for both employees and clients
No real company culture and lots of 'rah rah!' talk about working together as one company but then focuses were almost immediately shifted to one team or another.
No real foresight about the ability to grow and scale a company like this - more and more clients were being brought on but there was not nearly enough staff being hired to manage it and current employees were overloaded then penalized for not being able to keep up if something fell through the cracks.
Little to no career development or opportunity for advancement.
Compensation was a bit of a joke - while medical/dental/vision premiums were covered 100%, the plans themselves were garbage, no 401K or retirement plans, no equity, and low starting salaries for the experience/skills needed.
The office space itself was not modern, pretty dirty/unkempt, and often times reeked because of the plumbing issues in the building.

Working at YouVisit is an adventure. For the last 18 months I've been developing VR projects with the Unity team and I've become like family with a lot the people here. The CTO really respects and loves passionate developers, so the company is filled with creative developers, a lot of which have a creative/entrepreneurial history. Most of the devs are gamers, and there are frequent game nights and game lunches. Developers of all levels are usually allowed to attempt new things, and given the chance to offer creative solutions, as long as they can prove the value of their ideas. Rarely asked to work overtime.

You'll get to see how NOT to run a business.
Very passionate CTO who wants to make awesome things.
Virtual reality is great...but it's only a small part of what YouVisit does.
Free lunch twice a month.
The company pays for health insurance, but it's laughably bad insurance.
There's been a few attempts at activities, but there wasn't enough thought put into them.
There are a lot of very talented and smart people. But they are all just waiting to jump ship.

Employees are severely underpaid and chronically overworked. YouVisit is the type of place that wants you to work harder not smarter.
Extremely high expectations. This wouldn't be bad, if employees were compensated fairly and treated like people and not widgets.
There's a high level of micromanagement from senior leaders who more often than not have no idea what they're talking about.
No transparency into how decisions are made or how the company is preforming.
Authoritarian management who demands respect, but hasn't earned it.
No equity. But management expects absolute buy in.
No room for career advancement.
Lack of resources. Good luck getting access to vital programs or even a decent computer.
Disguising facility. There's a 50/50 chance the plumbing won't work everyday. Dirty and grim covers everything.
The CEO lives in Florida and has no clue about what is actually happening in the office.
Monthly pay checks because it's "an inconvenience" to do it every two weeks.
A general disregard for honesty.
Lots of talk but very little follow through.

I talk about the company in general and engineering team in specific.
-The CTO is probably one of the best people you'd ever get to work with, he's very smart, chill and has an open glass door policy.
-A collective of great and smart people to work with, YouVisit is definitely a place where you'll form friendships and feel like you're part of a family.
-Good work/life balance most of the time.
-A lot of potential with the VR space.
-The management is usually aware of it's wrong doings and tries hard to improve.

-A lot of process between the product team and the engineering team, which sometimes can be good, but most of the time it's an overkill and a waste of time.
-Because of the nature of VR in the market right now, the company is moving in every direction to keep up, which can get overwhelming sometimes.
-Berks, amenities and compensation, are fair, but can always be better.
With that being said be aware that you're not working for a fortune 500. This is a self made company, no investors no fake money, and no people with years of experience, so it comes at a price, and growing pains. But it's worth it, you'll learn a lot.

Fully Bootstrapped = no money, no budget
Severe lack of company focus - they were all over the place with their ideas
They laid off about 5 people in one day while I was there - all of whom seemed to be great employees.
The CEO is in Florida and barely ever around.
Managers wear too many hats - spread too thin. No time to help their teams.
Laid off employees received no severance and no warning.
Benefits are AWFUL. Really poor insurance package and you only get paid once a month!!
