I’ve worked at quite a few companies, Zin has been the most well-run of them all. While managers seem more stressed at times, the “worker bees” in engineering at least have a very relaxed environment. You are assigned project(s), you get various tasks and you are expected to complete them. You are not micromanaged, it’s very independent for the most part. The work itself is very interesting and rewarding. Meetings are fairly minimal in my experience, short and to the point when required. Projects often involve multiple disciplines of engineers (mechanical, electrical, structural, aerospace, design, software, thermal, etc…) at all types of education levels (masters and PhD’s). You can learn a great deal of knowledge from others quite easily just by asking questions or having one-on-one discussions with others. The company tries to ensure morale is good with multiple events per year, from competitions with cash prizes to various holiday parties and picnics. The work/life balance is excellent, with the benefit of flex time, so if you have personal obligations that require you to take off early or come in later, you can easily manipulate your work week to accommodate. Also, any overtime is compensated at your hourly base rate, in those cases you need to work over 40hrs/week. In my time here, company outlook has been very positive. The company is growing, adding many new hires within the past year or so as more contracts are awarded or workload becomes too much for existing teams due to schedule/deadlines by our customers. Given Zin is a contractor, all work must be billable to a customer. Therefore, if a contract gets cancelled or funding is cut, that may mean layoffs. It’s just the nature of the business. Often people are on multiple projects, so if you are a good worker that isn’t just here to collect a paycheck week-to-week doing bare minimum, you will likely be reassigned to other project teams. The people here, while very friendly, are often very quiet and to themselves. As engineers tend to be introverted, it makes sense given there are so many work here.
