The foundation of the company was built on strong industry experience and great leadership. Throughout the years, we've added some great talent, and this has helped push the vision of what the main vison of the company has been. Zoomdata is now a world-wide company with customers and partners in every time zone - showing that the market has found a startup in Reston, and made it an international brand. Having been with the company for a while, there has always been the drive to keep learning from others, and to better yourself and your career. Many have been promoted from within, moved to different roles and departments, and management has been super supportive and cares about its employees. Lots of activity - yes that is a con. Recent 3.5 release has a ton of features that the customers have been anxious to get. Product quality has come a long way. 2. New sales team gets it. The new sales team is starting to get really good at identifying the right types of customers that really need our technology. 3. Some big partnerships about to be announced. The company has been quietly working on some major partnerships with some big companies for over a year now, which will be announced soon and will allow the company to grow and flourish in new ways. People who have left the company over the last year may not be aware of these efforts and how they're going to help the company continue to grow quickly. 4. Technology is cutting edge... IoT, micro-services, streaming data. Architecture is fresh and customers, especially ones embedding the tech, love it. Lots of really cool new tech is coming soon, predictive, AI, etc. 1. Sales performance has been lumpy. While small companies like to have consistent quarterly sales meet quarterly targets, sometimes Zoomdata has been below, and sometimes way head of its quarterly targets. When you zoom out and look at it smoothed out over whole years though the growth has been consistent, on-target, and impressive. 2. Some customer rollouts have been slow while waiting for their big data platforms to be fully turned on. Everyone including me is trying to actively get out. Culture has gone to dumps and almost everyone seems like dead men walking. Company doesn't have any sales, has pretty much missed majority of the quarters this year and last year. The pipeline isn't strong either. Basically on its dying legs. Almost all talented people have moved on (HUGE turnover in the last 3 months alone). The remaining are looking for jobs and those that aren't looking for jobs have peaked here and probably can't find a better place to go to. New CEO not capable of turning the ship around. Ship will sink soon and that is guaranteed. I don't know what else to say, morale is at all time low and keeps going lower. Unique value proposition as a native Big Data BI vendor, the market potential is significant and the company culture is decent for a start-up that has struggled to grow. The product has been plagued with quality issues for several years. Quality and slow innovation have led to dismal customer renewal rates and almost zero revenue growth. The company raised its fourth round of funding in the middle of the year as a last attempt to fix the product and improve sales, but it's probably too late due to increased competition. The win/loss ratio in competitive deals is secret management wants to protect. The former sales management team was very old school and has been replaced with a very aggressive, well-connected executive who is driving his team to succeed. * We had some bitter, lazy employees who had to go. Layoffs are always hard, but are part of start-up life. If you want to work for a start-up, you should expect to work hard. I’ve been with Zoomdata for almost two years, and as with any start-up, issues can arise. There’s always going to be growing pains, but on the flip-side, I’ve never worked for a start-up that’s allowed for me to have a true work-life balance, creative freedom and opporunity to learn beyond my skill set (aka not from doing mundane work). Changes in staff and management have brought about a new air to the organization. This has brought about more transparency and very defined goals. Essentially, aligning the organization to better reach the next level. New VP of Sales is kick-ass! Total go-getter, not a talker. If you’re a problem solver, want room to grow and hold yourself accountable to achieving goals, and want to make money, this is the place for you. If you’re not prepared for a few bumps in the road or some chaos, this isn’t the place for you. You need to be prepared to let the lows go and focus on achieving the higher objectives. private:zoomdata https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=1026056 Oct 5th, 2017 12:00AM Open Open Zoomdata Anonymous San Mateo, CA Company in decline Free lunch twice a week Can work from home quite a bit Cool technology concept in theory Mostly pleasant interactions with co-workers -Company is pretty much hemorrhaging money -Sales strategy is clearly not working -Have had 3 major rounds of layoffs in the past year -Marketing lead generation more focused on quantity of leads than quality -Company spends excessively but does not have the revenue to back it up -Upward mobility is quite political -Management is inefficient and inexperienced -Can be let go at any moment without any real warning or cause -Company is stubborn and will often stick to a strategy despite it being shown to be inefficient -Technology is cool but often not worth the price that a company has to pay when compared to more complete BI tools such as Tableau -Seems like most people are out for themselves at the company.
