The people here are amazing, hard working, and dear friends. There are no bad eggs because the hiring process emphasizes how well new hires work with the existing employees. I've never had a job this rewarding, fun, or challenging. I think because of my prior experience I was able to take on a bigger project than some previous interns. Being trusted with so much responsibility was a great experience although intimidating at times. Intern projects seem to depend on your knowledge/skill level of design + dev. - Tons of exposure to new skills, people, and ways of thinking - Unique opportunity to engage with the community (during meetups and "Soapbox" events) - I was able to get the vast majority of my work done during the day, so I had nearly perfect work/life balance. - Need to be a VERY well-organized self-starter. These attributes are crucial but are overwhelming when you're learning so much and also trying to complete your project. If you're not organized, you'll easily miss important deadlines or meeting reminders. If you're not a self-starter, you'll never ship your project because you won't realize it's up to you to make sure to ask for the help you need from teammates. Learning how to juggle these things was a worthwhile experience, but it was overwhelming at times. - Amazing experience, but money is tight. I'm happy that I've achieved what I was looking for at ZURB, and it's time to move to the next challenge, but it sucks. It sucks leaving an incredible team. I'm leaving sharper, and with a higher ability to produce and get to where I want to go. Couldn't be happier about my experience. If you're looking for a complete recipe to grow professionally, ZURB is the place to be: -Incredible co-workers. -CEO, GM, and CFO that are in it to win it. -Top notch clients. -Untouchable design craft. I'd like to see ZURB impact more organizations on a bigger scale. ZURB has created immeasurable value for the design and dev industry, which definitely spills over to other industries. People bonded and friendships were made. You worked long hours for little pay but it was OK because you were with friends and everyone was in the same boat. There are not many pros at ZURB other than they will sometimes hire people with little experience, mainly because that's all they can afford. I used to recommend that junior designers or developers join the company to learn, but I cannot recommend that anymore. There are honestly no pros that I can think of anymore. Even the catered lunches are terrible; they're usually fast food and a lot of people end up skipping them. Recently there has been a shift in the company. The owner started micromanaging everyone and introducing evermore bizarre growth programs. The company's management has turned incredibly toxic: turning people against each other. The owner will try to emotionally manipulate employees by saying he has trust issues. If you go into a meeting with him to talk about things that are bothering you he will try to gaslight you and make you feel like you're the cause of the problem. I can't say this enough: This company is a trap. If you work here and eventually leave, the owners will treat you like an enemy. You'll quickly become part of the Zurb family. People work hard, and move fast. You can expect to learn a lot, and rapidly improve your skills. A lot of effort is put into making it an enjoyable atmosphere. People are smart, respectful, and a joy to work with. The team might be the best part. Lots of work gets done. I imagine if you aren't comfortable with your tools and knowledge there could be a steep learning curve. There's a lot of effort put into teaching, which is great for people with little industry experience. Designers get to work on a huge variety of projects and a very diverse set of clients. The team is truly tight-knit, and there's been even more effort in the last couple years on nurturing a supportive culture. The pace is rather grueling, even more so for the design team which is the core of the company. Junior designers often struggle to keep up and feel that their efforts don't match their compensation. It's likely true, but there's also a ton of time devoted to training them on process and methodologies. There's also no shortage of opportunity, as there are many projects within the company, but they come second to client work, which takes majority of everyone's time. People with more experience are able to finish client work earlier, and so have more opportunities and therefore higher compensation.
