Unfortunately when you work in a satellite office outside of Toronto in another province you don’t feel as tight knit as those in head office. That said it’s a great company to work for overall. It can kick your butt some days with how busy it can be and it definitely can be stressful. Colleagues are great as are the brokers we work closely with. Middle management really need to be trained communication skills that can be applied to all staff, strong arming doesn’t work for everyone. The same management are quick to point a finger at you but rarely take personal accountability themselves. Personality differences aside if I ever left it would be for better pay, I find these guys to be trailing industry standard and not paving the new way for industry standard. Let’s start with middle management in the teller line: the teller supervisor couldn’t get her act together enough to draw up a schedule for her employees. One month alone I got 5 different schedules over the span of a week; it got to the point where I didn’t know which schedule was the right one. She would rather visit with people instead of answering her phone, often times ignoring internal calls because she knew it would mean she’d have to help a customer. Upper management is also poor, like devaluing employee concerns poor. Sweeping problems under the rug poor. The teller line is made up of catty, gossipy ladies who would not hesitate to make you feel foolish at any opportunity. One lady even spoke poorly of a customer while that customer was still in the bank! They don’t know what is the latest developments. They cast blame on everyone. They are not educated typical industry practice. Old way of doing things. HR is not objective. I know a lot of people are extremely unhappy with the current senior management and HR in place. But they have been there for years so everyone just takes it.
