As far as retail work goes, it's good — but what really makes this job unworkable is how poorly staffed it always is, and if just one person is sick the entire workplace can't function. That's kind of what all retail is like.

Great starter job
|
Worked here for a few years in the kids department and it was a good starter experience for those working retail. Point of sale system was easy to use and the job was very easy.

The managers and employees at Coles are amazing, very supportive work environment.
|
The work culture is amazing, employees are always there to support you. If something comes up and you need to find coverage for your shift, people are always willing to cover you. The managers are very supportive, always share their gratitude's, and are incredible communicators.
You will always be busy while you are there. You will be on cash checking people out, cleaning up the store, resolving books, giving customers book recommendations, finding items for orders, etc.
The hardest part of the job would problem be the auditing. you will have to can a sticker, scan every book on the shelf while counting them, then you will re-scan the sticker when you are done, enter in how many items you counted, and then start the process all over again on the next shelf. The process can be very time consuming and physically demanding, if you make an error on a sticker, the scanner will force you to recount the shelf again.

A Great Place to Work

The work isn't too stressful, I mean, it's retail so you will deal with some mean/creepy people on occasion but the job itself is really solid. The people I worked with are personally what made it for me. Some of the best management and team members I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I would have no problem doing another seasonal contract with them.

Great first job. Enjoyed the people I worked with and had some good conversations with customers more than just small talk.
Learned lots of different tasks from receiving, plannograms, cashier and customer service.
Cons: Lack of hours, inconsistent time schedule.
