tyo:4385 https://www.glassdoor.com?employer_id=1011401 Jan 20th, 2024 12:00AM Open Open Mercari Confused at a Min/ Incompetent at a Max -Met amazing and talented people during my time at Mercari (in the beginning) -Product is unparalleled and has potential to disrupt -WFH and great health benefits -Biz Dev team is keeping the lights on -lack of company strategy and thoughtful execution - leaders themselves do not understand the business -multiple function leads are likely better off working at a coffee shop as a barista i.e product /compliance / engineering -core leads are spineless jellyfish and afraid of making the right decision for fear of hurting feelings -has not been profitable but yet gets bailed out by the parent company -toxic environment where gaslighting and favoritism runs rampant - bad eggs are kept while amazing talent is pushed out -unnecessary meetings are just a 30 min buzz word peeing contest -1.0 NEGATIVE -1.0 NEGATIVE 0.0 NO_OPINION 0.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 2.0 1.0 1.0 1011401 Open The product has promise but the lack of direction and current leaders will lead to its downfall. Instead of making extravagant foolish bets that have zero to limited impact (Merchat AI/ Stickers, emojis on chat) nice job here..) they neglect to focus on the issues with the core product. However there is urgency to cut costs. Please do yourselves a favor and put the current leadership team out of their misery and invest in the right talent. Individuals that actually have marketplace/financial services experience. The manager as well as everyone in Mercari I have worked with really make sure that I enjoy the work I'm doing and that the work matches my learning goals. Everyone is supportive and willing to help. It is also great that co-ops' work actually go into production.
